LIBRARY & INFORMATION CENTRE

 Welcome to the Library and Information Centre.

                      The Library and Information Centre of this college started in the year 2001 with a collection of 1500 books. At present it has a collection of 2100 volumes and 9280 titles.  Our Library with a few exceptions is regarded as a service institution. Its aim being enables the users to make the most effective use of the resources and services.  The Library and Information Centre acquires materials, processes it and make it available for the use rather than preservation. It allows open access to its collection and provides service to its users. It is expected to convert the potential users to habitual users.

RESOURCES:

                      The collection of the Library and Information Centre which includes books, journals, Standards and non book materials in the field of Science , Technology ,Management  and books of general interest catering to the overall development of the users.

 BOOKS: It has a collection of 21600 volumes of books covering all discipline of Engineering, Science, Technology, Humanities, Social Science, Management and General Books. The books are arranged in

 JOURNALS:

                      The Library is subscribing about 200 journals and Magazines, both national & international on Science, Engineering, Technology, Management & magazines of general interest.

ORGANIZATION OF RESOURCES

                      The Library follows open access systems. All the books in the stack and reference section are classified and arranged using Dewey Decimal Classification. The Library provides Online Public Access Cataloguing for book search. Reading Materials have been shelved very conveniently for easy reference. Library Staff members are always available to help the users.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS

I.  WORKING HOURS

  1. The Library will be open all working days from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

2.   The timings of transactions are from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm& 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm on all working days.

II   MEMBERSHIP

      Membership open to all staff and students of  KMCTCE

  1. A recent stamp size photograph is to be produced along with the filled up application form for library ticket.
  2. The members are entitled to take books on loan on a scale given below
    Students                             :     First, Second & third year   :  2 books 
    Final year                            : 3 books
    Staff   :   Teaching Staff           : 7 books
                   Non Teaching Staff  : 3 books  
  3. Loss of library ticket shall be intimated to the Librarian immediately in writing. Issue of duplicate ticket will be at the discretion of Librarian.

III. BORROWING BOOKS

  1. Members can borrow books from the Library on producing the identity card and Library ticket issued from the college
  2. Books other than reference books and periodicals only will be issued to the members
  3. The borrower should examine the book/s issued to them and any damage, marking mutilation, writing or defect of any sort is noticed, must be reported to the Librarian before leaving the counter
  4. The borrower will be held responsible for any defect detected when the book in returned and he/she will be required to replace the defective book with a new one or pay such compensation as may be fixed by the Librarian
  5. For students the loan period is 15 days and 2 renewals is permitted. For staff members the loan period is 90 days.
  6. If the book/s borrowed from the Library is/ are not returned on or before the due date, a fine of Rs. 1 will be charged per day on each book/s.
  7. If the due date happens to be a holiday for Library, the books can be returned on the next working day without overdue charges.
  8. Failure to clear all outstanding due within six months may entail forfeiture of membership.
  9. The retention of the book beyond a period of 3 months from the date may be lead to the cancellation of membership. such membership shall be renewed only at the discretion of the Librarian
  10. If a book is lost, the matter should immediately report to the Librarian.
  11. If a book is irrecoverably lost, it must be replaced with a new one. If it is not done with in the date, five times the cost of book has to be paid.
  12. If a book belonging to a set or series is lost or damaged and a new volume is not separately available the whole set or series of books should be replaced.
  13. Member will surrender the library ticket when they leave the college.
  14. A penalty of Rs.50/ will be imposed, when the library ticket is lost or damaged. A penalty of Rs.15/ will be imposed when a date label/or pages from issued books fond missing or damaged.
  15. Librarian reserves the right to recall at any time any book issued from the library and also to terminate the facility to any borrower if he/she is found to infringe on the library rules.
  16. Librarian reserves the right to change the library timings and timings of different sections depending on the availability of staff and electric power supply.
  17. Personal copies of books are not permitted to bring inside the library.
  18. Library ticket is not transferable.
  19. Members can borrow non book materials on request and it should be returned within two days including holidays.

IV    GENERAL RULES

The library follows open access system. All the books in the stack and           reading room are classified & arranged using Dewey Decimal Classification system. The following points should observe to make the library a place for study and learning.

  1. Strict silence should be observe in the library and its premises
  2. Users must enter their details in the Gate Register.
  3. Personal belongings should be kept in the property counter.
  4. Books, journals and all other library materials should be handled with care.
  5. Marking, underlining, writing in books, etc. should not be done.
  6. Please contact library staff in case you need any help in using the library.
  7. Students are directed to carry their identity card while visiting the library.
  8. Books will be issued only on production of identity card along with library ticket.
  9. The arrangements of chair and other furniture in the reading room should not be disturbed.
  10. Members are requested to maintain absolute silence in and around the library.
  11.  Reading halls are meant for individual study only.
  12. Group discussion, Combined studies, etc are strictly prohibited inside the Library.
  13. The Librarian reserve the right to suspend the membership of any member found misbehaving in the library.
  14. Cell phones are strictly prohibited inside the Library.
